A unique space for co-creation that redefines the concept of office spaces. Transforming the city by transforming the workspace.
The building, located on Rios Rosas Street in Madrid, was the headquarters of Telefónica until 2005. Since then it has been practically empty and with no use.
b720, together with its partners BDG, developed the architectural project and coordinated the other disciplines involved to carry out the extensive rehabilitation project of the entire building. The project ranged from the re-configuration of the circulation spaces, cores, accesses and interior spaces to the complete renovation of the existing north and south facades.
The objectives set from the initial design phase were to achieve an energy efficient, inspiring and open building. The environmental design parameters of the project intend to have an impact not only on the efficiency and its overall performance, but also to improve the comfort of the users, creating a building for a sustainable and flexible office philosophy. All of this contributes to the objective of obtaining the BREEAM Excellent certification, the highest possible rating.
Sustainable design is present in all factors of the project: location of facilities to achieve optimum efficiency, design of spaces to allow high levels of natural lighting, modular layout to allow future changes with minimal impact, façade conception to provide natural light from continuous glazing – combined with integrated solar shading systems to control direct light-, natural cooling by maximizing thermal inertia, solar and photovoltaic installations on the roof, and the use of long-lasting and sustainable materials.
