Located in the heart of MADBIT, Madrid’s new innovation district, this four-star urban hotel reimagines the conditions and experience of a temporary stay in the city. The hotel’s design is based on the concept of two superimposed layers: an organic world at ground level and an efficient, rational “machine for living” on the upper floors.
The ground floor is fragmented into a series of pavilions connected to the outdoor spaces, creating a permeable and flexible environment. This configuration allows for a clear separation between access to the hotel’s internal and external programmes. Each pavilion accommodates a distinct function and extends beyond its physical boundaries, allowing guests to expand their activities outdoors through terraces and spaces for sports, relaxation and social interaction. Lush vegetation, pathways, seating areas and a swimming pool shape the landscape at street level.
In contrast, the guestroom floors follow a more rational layout, with clearly defined circulation areas. Corner rooms and directly facing rooms are avoided, both within the hotel and in relation to surrounding buildings, to ensure maximum privacy. As a volume, the hotel establishes itself as a distinctive and recognisable landmark within the emerging MADBIT district through its characteristic façades, which also provide balconies for most of the guestrooms.
The building responds to its context by drawing on the area’s industrial heritage through its material palette. The design also incorporates a range of sustainability strategies, including photovoltaic solar energy generation, orientation-specific façade solutions that provide shading, responsible water management, and the integration of vegetation as a unifying element throughout the project. This approach promotes biodiversity and enhances thermal comfort, both at ground level and across the balconies and shared terraces.
