The new Girona Health Campus is conceived as an integrated environment where healthcare, research, education and innovation come together in close dialogue with the city and its landscape.

Rather than operating as an isolated healthcare complex, the campus becomes part of the wider urban fabric. A network of permeable routes connects it across multiple scales, shaping an open and inclusive environment where architecture, public space and landscape work as a continuous system.

At the heart of the campus, a sequence of civic spaces, including the Plaza de la Salud (Health Square) and the Plaza del Conocimiento (Knowledge Square), creates new points of fusion between the hospital, the university and the city. These spaces establish a clear spatial structure while encouraging interaction, exchange and everyday urban life.

This urban approach is supported by a series of flexible and adaptable strategies: active and reconfigurable ground floors, reversible parking and a clear hierarchy of access and circulation. The helipad, photovoltaic roof, landscape-integrated technical facilities and green spaces are conceived as integral parts of the architecture, contributing to the campus’s environmental performance and overall comfort.

A versatile, highly flexible organisational system underpins the project, optimising circulation and separating conflicting flows while allowing for multiple spatial configurations. Designed to evolve over time, the campus provides a resilient framework capable of responding to changing healthcare models, technologies and future needs.
